Lynx dines on Wordpress and is sated
December 31, 2007
There’s an excellent video showing how SEO friendly wordpress is. Using the lynx text only browser the author shows the wordpress admin screen in lynx. Lynx can show you what the spiders see when they crawl your site. It’s good to know that you could admin your wordpress site using lynx if you had to. I wonder how the other blog engines would render with their fancy Ajaxian tools.

Now Boarding:Natural Search Cluetrain
December 26, 2007
I just finished readying “the Cluetrain manifesto” which is a must read for people in the business of building online brands. It really hits the nail on the head about the importance of avoiding business-speak in your marketing communications and how important it is to use a human voice and treat your customers like individuals rather than like a target market demographic.
This relates to your SEO efforts as well. When people are searching for goods and services they aren’t likely to use the term your marketing department came up with but rather a term you would use in a conversation. For example no one types in “aglets” into a seach engine but rather describes them as “things on the end of a shoe lace”. If your in the aglet business your probably not getting branded or category search results because no one knows that what they want is called an aglet. By using the voice and terms your customers use you can bring in unbranded search traffic or Natural search traffic. The low cost alternative to PPC advertising. Lower cost means higher profits and no monthly bills that help to inflate Google’s stock price.
Targeting Hispanics en los E.E.U.U.
December 26, 2007
Targeting Spanish speakers in the U.S. (Estados Unidos:E.E.U.U.) is a challenge. If you’re filtering by IP address to determine country and redirect people to the appropriate language you may miss out on giving Hispanics in the U.S. a Spanish language landing page. Read more
Whitehouse comes up #1 in SERPs
December 25, 2007
Some of you my remember the “miserable failure” Google bomb from last year that was recently fixed. Now the new whitehouse SERP oddity is the following expression:
“robots.txt” “Disallow:” filetype:txt
Could it be that we all beleive the Whitehouse will put some super secret url that’s publicly broadcasting For-your-eyes-only info such as
/vice-president/Dick/Cheney/location.kmz?
(.kmz = google earth location file)
Happy Holidays everyone!
SE analyst not too shabby
December 17, 2007
I have been trying out SE ANALYST, a new data mining and benchmarking tool that can be used by search marketers to measure primary search engine optimization attributes of the top-ranked web pages. It can also analyze user-defined, or custom, URLs. The SE ANALYST tool gathers more than 30 metrics in the three primary attributes and then blends the metrics to calculate page value relative to a keyword. Read more

WebCEO excellent free tool
December 2, 2007
After trying out WebCEO i have to say it is an excellent free edition tool. In order to help keep it free I am including a link from my blog. It has a very handy to see and edit multiple title tags for a variety of pages as well as give you a plain text view of what your average crawler should be seeing. It has a similar functionality to the Lynx view text browser over at delorie.com. It also has built in keyword density tools like the ones found here:
http://www.keyworddensity.com/
http://www.searchengineworld.com/cgi-bin/kwda.cgi
http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html
All in all its not a bad tool for the steep price of free
